The Story Behind HOLY ERROR
HOLY ERROR was born from an unexpected and deeply emotional encounter with a wild hare—an experience that changed everything.
On Sunday, September 29, 2025, Holy Toon was on his way to church when he noticed a rabbit in the middle of the road that had been struck by a car. The upper half of its body was still moving, but it was clearly injured and unable to escape further harm. As a lifelong lover of animals, Toon was heartbroken. Though he initially continued driving—lacking gloves to safely handle a wild rabbit—his conscience wouldn’t let him go far. Remembering that he had some Walmart shopping bags in his car, he quickly made a U-turn.
Using the bags as makeshift gloves, Toon carefully moved the injured rabbit off the road and onto the grassy sidewalk, hoping to give it a chance to survive. Before leaving, he poured out some trail mix beside it, thinking it might find comfort or strength in eating.
But as he continued driving, a thought struck him—are trail mix ingredients safe for rabbits? A quick search revealed the heartbreaking truth: almonds, raisins, walnuts, and several other components were toxic to rabbits. Feeling a surge of panic and guilt, Toon immediately turned back to remove the trail mix, afraid he might unintentionally harm the animal he was trying to help.
Unable to walk away, Toon brought the rabbit home. He placed it on a soft pillow in his garage, planning to check on it after church. After church, he purchased timothy hay and a rodent water bottle, hoping to nurse the rabbit back to health. Despite its injuries, the rabbit was still alive when he returned—a small miracle in itself.
Toon’s hesitation to take it to a veterinarian stemmed from a painful memory months prior. He had once rescued an injured deer, only to be turned away by multiple veterinary offices that claimed they were not legally allowed to treat wild animals. That experience left him disillusioned, but more determined than ever to help this rabbit in any way he could.
Research revealed that most rabbits struck by cars do not survive more than 24 hours due to a fatal digestive condition called gut stasis. Knowing this, Toon said his goodbyes that night, preparing for the worst. But when he checked the next morning, the rabbit was alert—staring right into his eyes. Against all odds, it had survived.
Encouraged, Toon blended a fresh fruit and greens smoothie made from romaine lettuce, timothy hay, strawberries, blueberries, bananas, cilantro, and water—something he’d read could help sick rabbits regain strength. After several attempts, the rabbit finally began to drink. It was a breakthrough moment.
Over the next few days, Toon continued to feed and care for the rabbit. He even took it outside daily for sunlight and fresh air. On the fourth day, he realized something remarkable: the rabbit had been found directly in front of a church. That realization felt like divine symbolism. From then on, he named it Holy Jack Rabbit—later shortened simply to HOLY after discovering it was a female.
Each day became a small miracle. Though still injured, Holy ate, drank, and even passed stool—signs of recovery that most rabbits in her condition never show. Toon cleaned her gently, comforted her, and treated her like family. He knew she would never be able to return to the wild, but he was ready to care for her permanently.
Sadly, on the seventh day—exactly one week after he found her—Holy’s condition began to decline. Despite Toon’s care and hope, she passed away on October 5, 2025.
Holy’s survival for seven full days, when statistics and nature suggested she should not have lasted one, felt like a holy error in the fabric of existence—a moment where compassion and chance defied all logic.
Toon buried Holy beside his garage, honoring her not as a wild animal, but as family. Her story became the emotional foundation and spiritual inspiration behind HOLY ERROR—a symbol of love, compassion, divine imperfection, and the beauty found in life’s most unexpected moments.
“HOLY”
The JACK RABBIT
Interesting Fact
Did you know that rabbits and hares are actually different animals? While rabbits live in burrows underground, hares make their homes above ground. Their young are also quite different—baby rabbits (called kits) are born hairless and blind, while baby hares (called leverets) are born fully furred, with their eyes open, and ready to run shortly after birth.
The Power of “Impossible”
Most people would have driven past that injured rabbit and said there was nothing that could be done. But Holy Toon refused to accept that answer. When everyone else would have said “no,” he chose to say “I’ll try.” That decision—driven by compassion, not certainty—made all the difference. HOLY ERROR was born from that belief: that even the smallest act of care can challenge what seems impossible. Because in the end, change doesn’t come from waiting for permission—it comes from believing that you can make a difference, even when the world tells you otherwise.
